病膏肓に入る (やまいこうこうにいる/yamai koukou ni iru)

-膏 is below the breast, 肓 is the thin membrane between your chest and abdomen. They are both considered difficult places to medically treat.
-to be diagnosed with a very difficult to or incurable illness
-to be extremely caught up in something, that pulling away from it is almost impossible / to become a slave to habit
